Alison Stroh

Founder of Dr. Coy’s Health Foods and Nissan Generation Next Select 2016

Alison is passionate about positive eating and a healthy lifestyle. In 2012 she spotted a gap in the market for a truly healthy snack, as her research showed that snacking is where we slip up in trying for better nutrition. She worked with award-winning oncologist, Dr. Johannes Coy, to create a delicious range of chocolate products with certified health benefits.

Food entrepreneur Alison Stroh is enjoying a busy start to 2017 and looking ahead to launching Ireland’s first healthy Easter egg.
February 20, 2017

We have had a really busy start to the new year which began with the ‘A Healthy Balance Evening’ event at Brown Thomas which we organised in partnership with Brown Thomas, Kathryn Thomas and her fitness retreat business Pure Results.

We designed a bespoke menu with chef Johnny Cooke who runs the restaurant in Brown Thomas, providing guests with advice and tips on how to maintain a healthy balance for the year ahead.

Everyone who attended left with a nice goody-bag which included our organic Coconut Oil and one lucky person won a hamper of Dr. Coy’s products, a €500 voucher for BT’s and a week on a Pure Results boot camp.

We are still rolling out with Centra who are carrying our products in 460 stores across Ireland, which is a key focus at the moment.  We have been doing a lot of in-store tastings in SuperValu stores in Cork and Dublin and also with the Health Store chain, having launched with them last year.

We are currently working on a new product that we plan to launch for Easter. We are going to produce Ireland’s first healthy Easter egg. The eggs will have all the key Dr. Coy’s nutritional health benefits with no sugar spikes and the four flavours we are testing are chocolate orange, mint crisp, crisp and raspberry.

Our experience of developing, launching and distributing our product was also the subject of a morning talk that I gave to the members of the Dublin Food Chain. We shared our experience from a producer’s perspective and it was nice to take stock of the challenges we have overcome and just how far we have come on our journey.

October & November Update
December 20, 2016

December 9, 2016

Food entrepreneur Alison Stroh has had another busy and productive month, expanding into the UK, establishing a strong presence in Centra stores nationwide and ensuring that her tasty nutritional chocolate products are included in luxury Christmas hampers.

We have been exceptionally busy preparing for Christmas and looking ahead to the new year.  Our recent expansion into 460 Centra stores across Ireland is a daunting task and our work now is getting to know all of the store managers. We have been travelling to stores nationwide to introduce ourselves and to give them a greater insight into our product range.

We recently engaged a distributor in the UK and we are getting our products into select boutique stores there. It’s a big step forward and we are taking our time to ensure that we get everything right.

We are delighted to have been part of some great events at Avoca, another important customer for Dr. Coy’s. Their customer events with food and health columnist Susan Jane White and food blogger Indy Power were really successful and allowed us to showcase our products.

We were also proud to support a charity event for the Jack and Jill Children’s Foundation at Lyrath Estate Hotel in Kilkenny. The event was hosted by model and food blogger Roz Purcell who includes our nutritional chocolate bars, organic virgin coconut oil and stevia sweetener amongst her favourite food products.

It’s hamper season and included in the Donnybrook Fair and Caviston’s hampers is our range of Nutritional Chocolate Bars and big favourites, our Chocolate Covered Almonds and Cherries.

Our fellow Nissan Generation Next ambassador Sarah O’Connor at The Cool Bean Company had the great idea of inviting some of  our fellow SuperValu Food Academy producers to put a hamper of our products together as competition prizes. So keep an eye out on social media for your chance to win some great hampers!

We have just finished presenting at the National Crafts and Design Fair in the RDS. We spent a lot of time preparing for it with new brochures and marketing material and it was great to  meet customers and to introduce new customers to our product range.

New awards, staff and bars for Alison this month!
October 9, 2016

Food entrepreneur Alison Stroh has had plenty to celebrate recently from winning an Irish Quality Food Award to launching her healthy nutritional chocolate bars into 460 Centra stores nationwide in addition to employing new staff in Cork.

We have had plenty to celebrate recently when we were awarded an Irish Quality Food Award in the Free From Sweet category. We had two bars nominated in the category. We won with our Coconut bar and our Mint bar was highly commended, so we were thrilled when the winners were announced at a gala event in Dublin’s Mansion House.

We also joined blogger Indy Power for the launch of her new book in Sprout and Co. on Dawson Street where guests had an opportunity to win some nice hampers of Dr. Coy’s Health Food products. We work quite closely with Indy who is very supportive of our products so it was nice to support her on the night.

Michelle Hunt, also known for her food blog ‘Peachy Palate’ is responsible for our business development. We share our Nissan Qashqai and we are loving how the beautifully branded car has made parking easy. The parking wardens now know that we are making deliveries when we pull into a loading bay and the car has brought an end to the problems we used to experience doing deliveries in a private car. Michelle also loves that this car has a radio!

We have just launched a new raspberry flavoured chocolate bar after spending quite some time getting the flavour and packaging right. We launched it at the National Ploughing Championships where we presented and hosted tastings at the Nissan and SuperValu exhibition stands. The feedback we received was amazing and we really enjoyed meeting everyone who tried our products.

Wellfest was another great event for us. It is health orientated and very much attended by our target audience, especially those who are interested in yoga and healthy eating.

We have just hired a new brand ambassador for Cork who will play a key role in helping us to expand in that region. We’ve focused quite a lot on Leinster up to now so it’s great to have someone in Cork to manage in-store tastings and the promotion of our products and brand generally.

Right now, we are busy launching into the 460 Centra stores nationwide. We are already in some of the key Centra stores and the focus now is to ensure that the product is available in all stores over the coming weeks. It’s an exciting time and another step forward for the business.

New flavoured healthy chocolate on the way!
September 7, 2016

Alison Stroh, co-founder of Dr. Coy’s Health Foods, is looking forward to a busy September including the launch of a new flavoured healthy chocolate bar and the prospect of winning a prestigious Irish Quality Food Award.

I’m just back from holidays and looking ahead to a busy September with tasting events, competitions, an awards night and the launch of the newest flavour in our range of healthy chocolate products.

It was really busy in the run up to holidays with tasting events at the Ring of Kerry charity cycle in Killarney and at Bank of Ireland Enterprise Week in Bray where Dragon Den’s star Gavin Duffy was among those who enjoyed sampling our products. We also showcased our product at the Bank of Ireland Kickstart Your Healthy Summer wellness event in Grand Canal Dock.

We went along to Taste of Dublin where one of our partners, Pure Results, was exhibiting. The business is owned by Kathryn Thomas and we sponsor their fitness retreats, which have been a huge success.

Our travels also took us to Oriel House Hotel in Ballincollig for a really positive tasting with Musgrave staff. We were recently listed in 221 SuperValu stores nationwide, so it was nice to introduce the product to staff who had yet to discover who we are and what we do.

Our nutritional chocolate bars have already been listed in three Donnybrook Fair stores and we are looking forward to having a presence is all of their stores over the coming weeks. We have had a partnership with Avoca since we launched and the Avoca Family Day Out was another great summer event for us.

We have a lot to look forward to in September including the National Ploughing Championships in Tullamore where we will be hosting tastings with SuperValu and Nissan. We are launching a new flavoured chocolate bar at the event, so make sure to drop by if you are attending.

The good news is that we have been shortlisted for an Irish Quality Food Award in the Free From Sweet category for our Coconut and Mint Nutritional Chocolate Bars. The winners will be announced at a gala event in Dublin’s Mansion House on 8th  September and we are very excited to see what happens on the night.

Other plans for the month include helping food entrepreneur and blogger Indy Power to launch her new book with some nice hampers of Dr. Coy’s Health Food product up for grabs in store with Dubray. We  will also be at Wellfest and a Yoga wellness event which is being hosted by Spinal Injuries Ireland in Dun Laoghaire.
